Day 57

Michael Adams, the president of the University of Georgia, is an idiot. You saw before that it snowed Sunday, and Monday's classes were cancelled. Well, Monday night, the temperature got back down into the mid 20s, freezing everything that melted yesterday. Athens-Clarke county schools and the Athens campus of Gainesville State College were both closed. Athens Transit did not run. But was UGA even delayed? No! Meaning all those people with 8 AM midterms had to find some way to make it to class, even though UGA buses weren't running either, because it wasn't safe for them to be on the roads. And yet, they expected students who live in off-campus apartments, many of whom are still without power, to drive in on very icy roads.

What's worse was once you got to campus. We're going to have a normal class schedule - okay, that's fine. But the campus hadn't been made safe either - the sidewalks weren't salted, snow wasn't cleared away, and fallen tree limbs and whole trees were everywhere, making it a bit difficult to get from Point A to Point B, especially when the buses weren't running. I busted it, myself, falling hard on an elbow (which still hurts =[ ). I know the northern states go through this every year, but in Georgia we're just not prepared to handle this kind of weather. It's not even that I minded going to class; I just thought that maybe it would've made sense to make sure half the student body didn't break an arm in getting there!

TWO Days til Spring Break!
